Alumni Chapter of Somalia
The project seeks to drive significant transformative change by fostering long-term peace and social cohesion. The goal is to empower young leaders with essential skills and resources for effective peacebuilding, aiming to bring about positive change and reduce violence within the community.
The project aims to develop leadership, advocacy, and communication skills among the Somali youth. It will accelerate transformative change, and promote long term peace and social cohesion in Somalia. In addition, this project forms a critical part in addressing Somalia’s youth engagement gap and fostering a culture of inclusive, sustainable peace.
Overall Objective: To empower Somali youth to become leaders and peacebuilders
Project Objectives
- Leadership Training: Equip 1,500 youth with leadership skills and conflict resolution skills.
- Community Peace Projects: Implement 25 youth-led initiatives to promote local stability.
- Policy Influence: Guide 1000 Youth in understanding policy frameworks related to peacebuilding
This project has the potential to transform our community significantly through:
- Youth Empowerment: Training youth leaders to drive positive change in their communities to contribute the economic stability of their country.
- Gender Inclusivity: Ensuring balanced participation of both male and female youth and others in peace initiatives to enhance social cohesion and promote human rights.
- Policy Advocacy: Equipping youth with the skills to influence policies affecting their future and equip them to create compelling advocacy stories to make their voices heard in decision making processes.
- Community Engagement: Facilitating dialogues and peacebuilding activities that involve the broader community to prevent conflict.
- Sustainable Development: Securing resources through the YALI RLC Alumni Day of Giving campaign to sustain and scale up the project targets.
Our current opportunity to engage more individuals stems from our past involvement in facilitating the ongoing Peacebuilding-funded project known as the “Somali Women & Youth Peacebuilding Project for Rights, Governance, Harmony, Trust & Social Cohesion” in Mogadishu. Our chapter has effectively trained 24 participants, both male and female, in advocacy, leadership, and communication. This early success lays a strong groundwork for making a wider-reaching impact.
